- Its uses are principally in Organic Synthesis as a Sulphating, Sulphonating or Chlorosulphonating agent. It is preferred in many applications because it yields the desired isomers.
- Pharmaceuticals such as Sulpha drugs, Synthetic sweeteners, anti-coagulants , substituted Sulphuric Acid and salts.
- Dyes and dye intermediates (reactive, dispers, anthroquinone and vat dyes, vinyl sulphone).
- Ion exchange resins.
- Miscellaneous uses include preparation of pesticides, plasticizers, tanning agents, textiles and paper specialities.
